For years I've been recommending people buy a "dumb" TV and a smart Blu-Ray player, so that the Smarts would be outside the TV and easy and cheap to upgrade. Right now, I'm glad I took my own advice.
Sony only notified us customers this month! For us it is not possible to "move to the new API". Please consider running API's side by side like google maps. It would be a big disappointment to see YouTube support go.
I bought Sony just 2-3 yrs ago and was watching it earlier YouTube on May 6, and a few hrs later received the message my device doesn't support.........I never even received prior notification. They are up to something and usually it means more money!
I'm very annoyed by this that Youtube will not be supported on my Panasonic TV from 20th April. It looks as though I'm going to have to buy an addaptor to get Youtube through my TV, with which are available.
Even Microsoft support software for a reasonable number of years, 10+ in some cases. Surely, Google should do the same? 3-4 years support is NOT good enough. Getting a Roku type device is one option, but I don't see why I should have to, when its just a lack of software support
Disappointing, yes, but I think I'm more disappointed with the device manufacturers, and this appears to be a theme: they don't put enough effort into maintaining the software! This cannot be news to Sony and others, and one would presume they've developed/are developing a new app using the new API. It's plain to see that the data layer is loosely coupled with the UI, since the UI of all the apps is essentially the same. It seems to me they just don't want to send the updated apps to old devices because they'd rather we buy new ones.
Apparently they are not considering the impact this has on loyal customers... Why would I buy a device from a manufacturer that doesn't support their devices for more than a year or two? That's crazy...
I agree with the earlier comment (I learned the hard way) -- don't buy "smart" TV/BluRay/etc devices for their apps; buy a dedicated device for apps/streaming instead. It'll save you money and heartache in the long-run.
You scumbags are killing my MP-N200 Sony Network Media Player. The only reason I used it was to watch YouTube for the most part.
I knew when you scumbags at Google bought out YouTube we consumers were all at risk from your monopoly powers being shoved against us, but I didn't think you'd stoop this far as to wipe out entire ecosystems of media players from using YouTube.
I think this is criminal. It's beyond time for the government to break up the Google monopoly. They simply have too much power to negatively affect too many consumers in one fell swoop like this.
My perfectly functioning MP-N200 Sony Network Media Player will now be practically worthless.
I think consumers should get together to sue Google and get money back for all the players and TV they are ruining and devaluing with this blatantly anti-consumer maneuver.
I would join a class action lawsuit against them in a heartbeat if they don't reverse course on this.
PLEASE people don't be deceived by the globalist and big corporation shenanigans they are only forcing us to upgrade the app so that they and NSA can continue to spy on us and censor what we watch and say seek the truth for yourself PLEASE VISIT www.infowars.com
I am very dissappointed too. My Panasonic BluRay HomeCinema, which is 2 years old, can now no longer be used for Youtube! I have never heard of such a short timespan for support. A normal PC you would be able to upgrade with a new operating system, but this is not possible with these kind of products! Youtube was one of the main reasons for me to buy my HomeCinema-system. I very much doubt that Google couldn't support the old version for some years to come - or do a new version - for a system like mine. If that's the case, why doesn't the article say so? Shame on you, Google!
Yes, I can't believe you expect me to go out and buy another device when I just bought it two years ago. I don't know any other company that would do something like this, unless they want to kill their own company.
Rather incredible... after three years or so, the only interesting app on my Panasonic VIERA is going to be dumped. Seriously, is it too much effort for a huge company like Google (not to mention their partners) to update an old YouTube version? Don't expect me to swap my TV anytime soon...
I have 3 Sony "smart" tvs at home with the app and now you tell me it's going to be gone .. My kids will be so so so disappointed .. We bought those for them for precisely this YouTube app .. I expected a firmware upgrade or parallel run never a brawl out scenario :( disappointed and fustrated ...

I agree why can't youtube just keep the old one and start the new one too? You guy's are moving to fast and doing this is going to leave a LOT of people high and dry. They are just doing this for no reason at all, just because they can. This shows us just how much they really care about the people. I just got the warning and it's only giving me a month not a year. Youtube this SUCKS on so many levels. How could you do this to us? IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T TRY TO FIX IT.
WTF?!?!?! A 2 to 3 year old item is now considered an "older model" undeserving of a few lines of code to keep functional? The tree fruit cult has been getting away with this despicable behavior for years, so now evidently other companies are jumping on the forced obsolescence bandwagon - what a shame it has come to this.
This is really not on! I don't understand why you cant just open a new app for new tv's, even if newly published stuff cant be watched on the 3 year old tv's like mine we should still be able to view the videos already published! I saved for a year to buy my tv after having none for 4 years just so my little girl could grow up not having to strain her eyes on a computer screen. I expected it to last 10 years at least for the price. She is always watching kids songs while Im making dinner or doing the washing and will be gutted she cant watch kids songs anymore or "the learning station" I'm annoied she will be upset. Due to personal circumstances I haven't been able to work for the last year so I can't afford a new tv, nor should I have to. Please KEEP RUNNING YOUTUBE AS IT IS IN IT'S PERFECT WORKING CONDITION!
dont think so, here's the real reason behind v3 from YouTube themselves.. "the ability to retrieve or update in-video promotion campaign data.' ADVERTISING MONEY
Of course the real reason is money, money, money, read this from YouTube about v3 "the ability to retrieve or update in-video promotion campaign data.' Cant pump advertising up your bottom properly from v2 any more.
OK ...lets all start a class action suit against Google regarding this sham.....It's all about the money....so lets make them pay if they're going to screw us like this. No doubt that the manufacturers are in on this also so let's not forget to sue them also. At least the lawyers can make some money....welcome to the new world???!!!! WTF LOL KMA
Way to go guys. Even Microsoft wouldn't treat their users so shabbily. Just remember there is always a new kid on the block waiting to get a piece of the action. Fool me once is all you'll get from me.

I hope junktube and google are happy with themselves. This decision has alienated millions of users, not just a handful. What I love is, it is going to cost Google in advertising dollars, that these millions of people will no longer view or use there services.. Do you think I would replace over $3000.00 worth of TV's and devices just for Google and junktube (ROFLMAO) Just another one of googles missteps, like shoving the most scatterbrained google+ services that they still can't figure out where it's going.
I'm glad I see that google is going to continue to step on the people that helps make them money. I was looking at three S6 phones (no more android devices here), hello Iphone..
Take it to heart, google will regret this decision.
We ALL need create some official organization to act against Google-moogle and Sony-bonny. May be official site to collect our votes and after millions will rise we will send to goverment notice. Together we are Power.
Google, Sony and Panasonic are out to screw the users. Will not buy Sony or Panasonic again because they didnt not convince Google to continue support of their older TV's. Sony and Panasonic probably believe users will have to use others apps or buy a newer smart TV. It can't be that a big company like Google cannot come up with a technical solution to continue older displays on v2 and newer TV's with flash for Youtube v3. So, it must be that there is a spying capability that Google needs to enable beside in-video promotions and paid Youtube. Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, AT&, Verizon and many others have been making money from helping govts spying on users. More spying capabilities mean more money for Google. Google is exactly the evil company it said it never was.

I paid over $2500 for my top-of-the-line Panasonic Plasma 3D "Smart" TV and now it won't even play YouTube videos? Are you KIDDING ME??? I've been a software developer all my life and this is just hubris and arrogance, unless they release a version of the app that will work with the v3 API. They act like this is an Android cell phone. People buy TVs and keep them forever, until the TV dies. If you want a new tv, you give your old one to a friend or relative and it just keeps working for them for even more years. This is really bad, but at least it's Google is consistent. They are getting more and more like the old Microsoft. Funny because Microsoft seems to be moving in the other direction, albeit very slowly. Google, you better get your act together or you're going to be reviled and despised just as much as the "other" guys.
This is for Philips too. I have a 2011 model "smart" Philips and I have the same problem. This is absolutely unfair. I think Google have to do something for that.
YOUTUBE GRANDE DECEPÇAO VAMOS ENTRAR COM ENCHURADAS DE PROÇESSOS CONTRA OS FABRICANTES DE APARELHOS COM PROPAGANDA ENGANOSA CONTRA O CONSUMIDOR E CONTRA O YOUTUBE
In the long term, this won't be benefitting you. If v2 is no longer available to us, many of us won't bother to get new software or make new updates. This is unfair, and it's a poor business decision.
Hi it is very sad to hear that thousand of people are suffering for that great loss of youtube on older tv , i do not think that youtube professional are not capable of making update
Hi it is very sad to hear that thousand of people are suffering for that great loss of youtube on older tv , i do not think that youtube professional are not capable of making update
As you see from these replies, we are all angry, sad, upset about losing you tube in our smart and expensive tv's. With the high tech century 21 knowledge, we expect and request that you tube is user friendly and download the app asap. Thanks for all you do.
Why don't you blame Sony for making a product that can't be updated? Why don't you blame *yourself* for sinking so much money into expensive multi-purpose hardware? (Minimizing the number of cables sure is expensive!)
Bought a sony dvd/blue ray player on sale about a year and a half ago.....now they take away the best internet feature? Sony, youtube, and google are all to blame and they can all go to hell. They think that we can all afford to run out and purchase new tv's/dvd players? For a lot of us TV/internet is the ONLY entertainment we have and can afford. Thanks a lot. I hate big corporations. If they only knew how difficult it is to live on todays wages. Piss on the corporations. They know it wouldn't be hard to keep around the old version along with the new version. They just want to increase sales/profits. Maybe they can buy us all a new smart TV or dvd player.
Can't we complain to consumer protection organization or anything? Having spent few thousand dollars to buy a sony tv/ble ray and they go out of support in 1 and half year is totally unacceptable.
I have a Samsung 3dtv8000 series and I have just rung Samsung and there is nothing they can do - no card or firmware download will correct the utube problem - its an utter disgrace
I agree with everyone here we all need to contact our state attorney generals office I paid three thousand for my Panasonic viera just over three years ago and they gave us all the utube shaft !!
The worst thing one can do! A lot of smart TVs and receivers with Sunplus processors do not have the possibility of update Stop YouTube mean stop features
We have just about all had enough of Google and the big TV manufacturers. When I bought my TV one of the main reasons for getting it was to watch YouTube and now after just a couple of years, the service has been withdrawn. Either Google or Panasonic could easily have resolved the issue but choose not to. This is the last time I buy Panasonic or smart TV. And whats more Google dont even pay the tax that is due - time to kick them all out - I will now be using Google as little as possible
whore! it's disgusting to do that to people. All this to better run their bisness, I find this forum by chance I have to write so enjoy, I live in France and I have a fucking "SONY BRAVIA" I always went on youtube, I am disgusted. And I believe that in all countries of the world is the same. And because of them I can even listen to music or to the alphabet song to my 2 year old son he cries all morning. SHAME TO GOOGLE, YOUTUBE, SONY (ect) you annoy everyone with your shit update what are we in a shit, that walk very well before and nobody will have plenty. Somebody help us seriously it can not go on like this. They are not care "clients" in GOOGLE, YOUTUBE and SONY (ect) bank selfish asshole!
wy jesteście po prostu pierdolnięci w łeb - zostawiacie duże grono ludzi bez możliwości korzystania z youtube bo macie to w dupie i tyle jhak powiedziałem PIERDOLNIĘCI I TYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are a Direct TV customer go to their support page and you will see that most of the Genie receivers are not supported by the upgrade so you will not access You Tube anymore.
2 wdtv live boxes dead, 2 playbooks dead, 1 samsung blu ray player dead.
I understand the need for change, but API 2 could've still been supported together with API 3.
That being said, I give no allowance to SONY for their shoddy suppport of anything they sell. After buying a PS3, years back I realized that they own your device, NOT you. They took stuff away with updates, and left out stuff that could've easily been added.
The earlier PS3 could play also PS2 and PS1, the new PS3 only PS1, and the PS4 just PS4 (Well, actually you can play SOME PS3 titles if you pay sony $9.99 for something you ALREADY BOUGHT!!)
Sony can easily support API3, they just don't care. I waiting for them to say, you can upgrade your youtube on your TV for only $99.99 !
I have three Samsung Smart TV's, two Samsung Blue Ray DVD players and a Samsung tablet all purchased in the last three years when I figured it was finally time to replace my old equipment. I purchased the equipment as Christmas/Birthday/housewarming gifts for myself and my two children. We do not have cable so use the TV solely to watch YouTube and Netflix. I considered it a big investment and I really debated it as it was a struggle - but I figured it would last us years. To know that I have no control over a company removing features from something I own is so infuriating and realize that they could soon do the same with the Netflix app. We will then have three tv's that are absolutely "stupid" and useless to us. This whole situation is pretty much the same thing as the government coming in and removing your money or freezing your bank accounts...No control, no recourse over the fact that you purchased something that has been in effect "broken" by the very people you purchased it from. I don't know who is really responsible for this injustice - but maybe a petition with Change.org would get some attention around the world. From a "green" point of view - this is a disastrous decision, as those with money will replace their technology with the newest and greatest. Who will buy the less than 3 year old useless technology? It will be landfill. For those of us like myself - that waited years to replace their TV - thinking they were getting the best and long lasting technology - being told that it would be continuously updated - we have been lied to, robbed and duped. I am so tired of being controlled by people without names or faces that can perpetuate injustices without any recourse. How is this even legal? Is it a wonder that the world seems to be going madder by the day? Where or to whom do I direct my anger besides a blog page? And does anyone really care? I feel helpless knowing that I am unable to do a thing about this. This whole situation is just so wrong on so many levels - and has far greater implications and significance than just the removal of an app.
I just turned on my TV and my YouTube app updated and is now back on my Samsung TV! Thank you Samsung for making this right. This whole ordeal should have never happened in the first place - as so many people were VERY upset by this, including myself, but thank goodness you rectified the situation. Thank you for listening to your customers.
There is no absolute NECESSARY reason for deprecating the original API. Device manufacturers never intended to have to provide firmware updates to fix every time the Google Gods decided that something should be obsolete. They were put there to fix bugs. Companies don't have the staff to re-design things every time Google gets a new idea. Perfect example is NPAPI support in Chrome. That is having a HUGE negative impact on extremely high-end equipment used for networking (equipment that I help design and even Google uses as a CUSTOMER). In the end, they seem to working to TRY to reduce their market share. As of October, when that change is permanent, many large corporations are dropping Chrome because it will no longer be usable for their needs. Google is getting like IBM, trying to be the industry bully. How'd that work for IBM? Not very good. And Google is going to get the same "education" if this keeps up.
Yep. What ever happened to TV's lasting 20+ years? (my previous TV lasted at least that long before I went to a LCD). Now, every time a new version of code comes out, everyone needs to throw everything away and start over? Earth to Google: That won't last for long. Consumers cannot afford that. Eventually they will just STOP and you will be the ones suffering--not us.
I totally agree with posts above. Kids love YouTube support. Please enlighten motivation.

ReplyDeletedont think so, here's the real reason behind v3 from YouTube themselves.. "the ability to retrieve or update in-video promotion campaign data.' ADVERTISING MONEY
ReplyDeleteOf course the real reason is money, money, money, read this from YouTube about v3 "the ability to retrieve or update in-video promotion campaign data.' Cant pump advertising up your bottom properly from v2 any more.
ReplyDeleteOK ...lets all start a class action suit against Google regarding this sham.....It's all about the money....so lets make them pay if they're going to screw us like this. No doubt that the manufacturers are in on this also so let's not forget to sue them also. At least the lawyers can make some money....welcome to the new world???!!!! WTF LOL KMA
ReplyDeletewoow its amaizing continue to this one
ReplyDeletei think this picture is sow amaizing yes
ReplyDeletehello my dear
ReplyDelete, we will fight for what we paid for!!!!!!! THIS IS BS
ReplyDeleteIf people quit buying "smart" TV's cause of this the manufacturers aren't going to be happy...
ReplyDeleteplease continue to support "older" (3 years+) TV....
ReplyDeleteWay to go guys. Even Microsoft wouldn't treat their users so shabbily. Just remember there is always a new kid on the block waiting to get a piece of the action. Fool me once is all you'll get from me.

ReplyDeleteI hope junktube and google are happy with themselves.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I see that google is going to continue to step on the people that helps make them money.

DeleteGoogle, Sony and Panasonic are out to screw the users.
ReplyDeleteSaludos.

ReplyDeleteBastards!
ReplyDeletePlease withdraw your decision. It is very unfair !!!
ReplyDeleteGoogle-moogle, Sony- boney are pure demons... They are on highway to HELL.
It's a "new" strategy (and old trick, being honest) for selling devices...I will never buy Sony again...
ReplyDeleteThis is for Philips too. I have a 2011 model "smart" Philips and I have the same problem. This is absolutely unfair. I think Google have to do something for that.
ReplyDeleteYOUTUBE GRANDE DECEPÇAO VAMOS ENTRAR COM ENCHURADAS DE PROÇESSOS CONTRA OS FABRICANTES DE APARELHOS COM PROPAGANDA ENGANOSA CONTRA O CONSUMIDOR E CONTRA O YOUTUBE
ReplyDeleteIn the long term, this won't be benefitting you. If v2 is no longer available to us, many of us won't bother to get new software or make new updates. This is unfair, and it's a poor business decision.
ReplyDeleteme too haha!
ReplyDeleteIt is very unfair !!!
ReplyDeletehello please bringback youtube v2
ReplyDeletei really hate you sony damn you
ReplyDeletefucking sony
ReplyDeleteHi it is very sad to hear that thousand of people are suffering for that great loss of youtube on older tv , i do not think that youtube professional are not capable of making update
ReplyDeleteHi it is very sad to hear that thousand of people are suffering for that great loss of youtube on older tv , i do not think that youtube professional are not capable of making update
ReplyDeleteAs you see from these replies, we are all angry, sad, upset about losing you tube in our smart and expensive tv's. With the high tech century 21 knowledge, we expect and request that you tube is user friendly and download the app asap. Thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteVery easy... From now on switch to use Bing instead of Google search...
ReplyDeleteI meant on computer.... Everyone tries to use Bing and stop using Google search period
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you blame Sony for making a product that can't be updated?
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you blame *yourself* for sinking so much money into expensive multi-purpose hardware? (Minimizing the number of cables sure is expensive!)
ReplyDeleteDeus
ReplyDeleteShame to Google! I'm angry!
ReplyDeleteCan't we complain to consumer protection organization or anything? Having spent few thousand dollars to buy a sony tv/ble ray and they go out of support in 1 and half year is totally unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteThis is really your own fault for buying a Sony product. Sony is a terrible company.
ReplyDeleteI have a Samsung 3dtv8000 series and I have just rung Samsung and there is nothing they can do - no card or firmware download will correct the utube problem - its an utter disgrace
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone here we all need to contact our state attorney generals office I paid three thousand for my Panasonic viera just over three years ago and they gave us all the utube shaft !!
ReplyDeleteVery disappointed... Back to Samsung next tv. Should never have changed to try Sony.
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing one can do!
ReplyDeleteA lot of smart TVs and receivers with Sunplus processors do not have the possibility of update
Stop YouTube mean stop features
We wish to retain the old application works
Thank you
We have just about all had enough of Google and the big TV manufacturers.
ReplyDeleteSony has no control over what Google or YouTube does. Case tossed out.
ReplyDeletewhore! it's disgusting to do that to people.

ReplyDeletewy jesteście po prostu pierdolnięci w łeb - zostawiacie duże grono ludzi bez możliwości korzystania z youtube bo macie to w dupie i tyle jhak powiedziałem PIERDOLNIĘCI I TYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are a Direct TV customer go to their support page and you will see that most of the Genie receivers are not supported by the upgrade so you will not access You Tube anymore.
2 wdtv live boxes dead, 2 playbooks dead, 1 samsung blu ray player dead.
ReplyDeleteI understand the need for change, but API 2 could've still been supported together with API 3.
Sony should update their app for youtube
ReplyDeleteCome on GOOGLE!!! Lg HB954 no supported!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo Google, on behalf of everyone who in some way relied on the v2 API;
ReplyDeleteGo fuck yourself.

ReplyDeleteI have three Samsung Smart TV's, two Samsung Blue Ray DVD players and a Samsung tablet all purchased in the last three years when I figured it was finally time to replace my old equipment.
ReplyDeleteI just turned on my TV and my YouTube app updated and is now back on my Samsung TV! Thank you Samsung for making this right. This whole ordeal should have never happened in the first place - as so many people were VERY upset by this, including myself, but thank goodness you rectified the situation. Thank you for listening to your customers.
DeleteGLOBALIZZAZIONE O GOOGLEIZZAZIONE ?!?
ReplyDeleteLADRI SEMPRE PIU' LADRI !!

ReplyDeletesamsung s8530 wave ii youtube player not
ReplyDeleteplz fix the problem directv i really wont to look at youtube
ReplyDeletei hate this. i miss the youtube app on my ps vita
ReplyDeleteThere is no absolute NECESSARY reason for deprecating the original API.
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteit seems to me that we have all been miss sold smart televisions and should be compensated
ReplyDeleteYour service is very supportive for us. thank you to giving me such a amazing support by your services.
